Porcelain veneers can dramatically improve a smile. Veneers
are thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front
surface of your teeth.
They are natural-looking, and they can change the shape,
color and alignment of your teeth. In other words, veneers
are used to improve the aesthetic appearance of teeth, to
eliminate the gaps between teeth, or address the problems
of a "gummy"smile as well as short or small teeth.
They can often be used as an alternative to correcting misaligned
teeth with lengthy orthodontic methods.
The
first step toward cosmetic enhancement with porcelain veneers
is to meet with us to discuss your goals and expectations
for your smile. At this time, a doctor will consult with you
about porcelain veneers and inform you of what you can expect
from the veneer procedure.
For your second office visit, your teeth will be prepared
for the veneers. By gently buffing your teeth's front surface,
the doctor will take off a small amount of enamel from your
teeth. The thin porcelain veneers will eventually take the
place of this removed enamel. A mold is then crafted from
your teeth and from this your porcelain veneers will be custom
constructed.
During the third and last visit for the procedure, the veneers
are placed on your teeth. The doctor will match the color
of the veneers to your surrounding teeth. A special light
is used to finish the process.
